I couldn’t bear to see that look in her eyes, a look of disappointment. I stepped away from her, put Mason’s car seat on the floor and turned around. I slammed the front door behind me on the way out. In the street I tried to compose myself before I climbed into the car. I had to get away from here before my head really did explode. I couldn’t take all of this worry any longer. It ate away at me every second of the day.
